The Ho Chi Minh Trail
Tour Summary & Highlights
Tour Itinerary
We will leave Saigon eastward, hitting off-road paths within an hour. We’ll only briefly cross the highway to explore rubber plantations and enjoy nature along small paved and red dirt roads, perfect for photos. There’s an optional off-road challenge, but if not, we’ll continue onto the scenic 55th highway for the afternoon. As we reach Bảo Lộc town via winding backroads, we’ll be treated to stunning green vistas. Our overnight stay in Bảo Lộc will be at a charming hilltop villa.
Standard Itinerary
Starting from Bảo Lộc, we will visit minority ethnic villages with stunning valley views, then proceed to the Tà Đung road for expansive lake and hill panoramas. Lunch by the lake offers a picturesque setting. Continuing northward, we navigate backroads with optional off-road challenges. As we near our destination, we’ll traverse long paved routes through vast rice fields and hills. The day ends in Buôn Ma Thuột with a delightful dinner of ethnic minority cuisine, perfect for a well-deserved rest after a day of adventure.
OPTIONAL EXTRA DAY
Break “Day 2” into two days (recommended for conservative riders.)
Day 2 of our typical itinerary requires considerable energy and stamina, featuring challenging off-road sections and narrow backroads. For those seeking a more relaxed pace or wanting extra time for photos and relaxation, we highly recommend opting for an additional day. During this optional extension, we’ll spend an afternoon and night at a picturesque wooden villa nestled in a valley beside a tranquil stream. The natural beauty of this province is extraordinary, making it an unforgettable destination.
Departing from the renowned city of Buôn Ma Thuột, we venture onto the backroads, traveling northeast towards Gia Lai province. Today’s route mainly follows well-paved roads, passing through some of the least populated areas of the highlands. This perfectly complements our destination, located in a remote area with only one notable accommodation option where we’ll spend the night. The ride features long stretches of excellently paved roads, offering uninterrupted views of the surrounding mountains throughout our journey.
Optional Rest Day
Hội An UNESCO Heritage
Today’s itinerary offers flexibility in riding distances, catering to the preferences of our riders. At the very least, we’ll make our way directly to Hội An to savor the UNESCO heritage old town. However, for those craving more adventure, there’s the option of embarking on a 150-kilometer backroads loop during the day. By arriving in Hội An around lunchtime, we’ll have plenty of opportunities to unwind in the afternoon and fully immerse ourselves in the vibrant atmosphere of the night market later in the evening. This adaptable plan ensures a delightful experience tailored to everyone’s varied preferences.
We start with a visit of the vast surroundings of the largest Imperial Tomb. After this enriching visit, relish an early lunch before embarking on our journey westward, heading towards the Laos border and the renowned Ho Chi Minh Trail. Wind through charming villages far from the hustle of urban life. Once on the Ho Chi Minh Trail, savor the liberty of navigating open, meandering roads. As the sun sets, pay a visit to the historic Khe Sanh combat base, marking the location of the Vietnam War’s most intense battle.
OPTIONAL Rest Day
